Packing Things so Your Moving Company Doesn't Have to

Updated: Nov 30, 2022

In the case that you want to pack things yourself and so graciously save your moving company some work, here are some ideas of what you can pack up yourself while hiring someone to move everything for you.

Clothes

Clothes are one of the easiest things to pack when you're moving. You can simply fold them up and put them in boxes. If you have a lot of clothes, you may want to consider renting a wardrobe box, which is a large box with a bar that you can hang clothes on.

Dishes

Dishes are another easy thing to pack. You can wrap them in packing paper or bubble wrap and then put them in boxes. If you have a lot of dishes, you may want to consider using dish packs, which are specially designed boxes that hold a lot of dishes.

Books

Books are easy to pack, but they can be heavy so you'll need to be careful when loading them onto the moving truck. You can pack books in boxes or in special book crates if you have a lot of them.

Electronics

Electronics are relatively easy to pack, although you will need to take some precautions to prevent damage. For example, you should unplug all electronics and wrap them in packing paper or bubble wrap. You should also put electronics in boxes that are padded with foam or other material to prevent them from being jostled around during the move.

So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to start when it comes to packing for your move, have no fear! We’ve put together a list of a few basic items that you should be sure to pack yourself – whether or not you decide to hire a moving company.
